Silky Rosegill
A morning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. I found this impressive fungi sheltering (the fungi not me) inside the fallen trunk of an old beech tree. I'm reasonably certain that its the rather uncommon Silky Rosegill, albeit a somewhat mature specimen. The volva at the base of the stem can be seen clearly and the cap has the long silky fibres that give it the first part of its name, even if the gills have only a faint hint of rose.
