Aftermath of last night’s deluge!

We were talking to Heidi via our usual WhatsApp video chat at 6:30pm, when the skies outside went dark. As we were sitting looking through the patio window, rain of biblical proportions began to deluge out of the sky, with a ferocious wind.
One lightning flash lit up the room so much that Heidi could see the effect and hear the thunder. Another one we saw arc from the sky to strike the Sutton Coldfield television signal mast which is situated on top of a small hill in the farmland which surrounds this area. This happens every time there is a storm.
Our road was like a river and the wind was whipping tree and shrub branches back and forth as they bent to it and the force of the water.
I had left a small plastic measuring jug outside, which I use to replenish the bird baths. When Stephen retrieved it this morning it had 250ml of rainwater in it!
I wondered how the roses would look as I went up the garden earlier today in bright warm sunshine.
Everything was clean and refreshed. The plants and grass had loved being watered, albeit rather violently.
Some plants had really perked up, like a small outdoor cyclamen, tucked away in the bottom border.
In trepidation I got to the shrub roses.
They were actually enjoying the lovely sunshine.
They had cascaded down onto each other and some were hanging over to touch the garden path.
Amazingly enough, they are recovering their equilibrium.
A couple more photos in extras.
I’m listening to the Test Match out here in the summerhouse.
It’s on a knife edge once again.
England need 37 to win…….
