Bird Box on Elder Tree
A busy couple of days with few photos taken . This shows the bird box , a birthday gift from Jessicas parents-in-law. Dave kindly fixed it in place whilst I hung onto the ladder . It’s positioned opposite our house and we should be able to watch any visitors from a bedroom window . It was tricky to get it in the right place but I like the way that it blends in so well .
Yesterday I picked several kilos of rhubarb and gooseberries which were then cooked in the oven flavoured with elderflower cordial , ginger and ground cardamons, delicious.
Today we have ticked off several more garden jobs including mixing up the ingredients for soil in another planter which will hopefully provide a suitable spot for some beetroot .
We are having another mouse invasion and so each day begins with a drive and a mouse release followed by a pleasant walk.
I listened to a radio programme about the most environmentally friendly way of disposing of dog poo. The conclusion was that if you are unable to compost it in a compost set up that is separate from the garden compost then the best bet is to use bags made from recycled plastic .
The definitions of phrases like , biodegradable, compostable , made from plant materials are very woolly plus the conditions in landfill don’t allow them to decompose or if they do it’s anaerobic which produces methane, so not a good plan .
The conclusion was that recycled plastic is the friendlier option . I spent ages looking online , the best I came up with was 65% recycled plastic . I wondered if anyone out there has found something with a higher RP content ?
I’m enjoying interludes at the homestead in between van trips , I have more motivation to do the tasks that keep everything running. Chatted to Jess earlier about our upcoming weekend away and now need to pull out some of the camping stuff , it’s due to rain but am hoping it won’t .
Hope the weekend has gone smoothly for all who pass by .
