A new brood!

We were delighted today to see that the parent coots (who lost their previous brood of 2 chicks earlier in the year) now have 3 tiny newly-hatched chicks following mother coot's work incubating the second set of eggs (as shown on my blip a week ago).

The parents were taking great care of them this afternoon: here's one of the chicks being fed a bit of tasty pond weed by one of the parents. Let's hope this brood survives.
