Dyer's Polypore

One of the alternative names for Dyer's Polypore is  aptly Velvet Top Fungus. This particular specimen has been growing on a rotting pine stump for about 3 weeks and is now around 15" across - and still growing. It is currently a butterscotch brown but will darken over the summer. The fungus has appeared in the same location for at least four summers - occasionally surviving over milder winters.
