West Mersea Island

We both slept quite poorly because of the heat - our accommodation has a lot of glass in it! Any how, after breakfast we ventured to Mersea Island.

Despite how it looks in this photo, the sun shone brightly and with much warmth. We pottered along the high street which looked well kept with interesting cafes and shops, a church and outdoor kindergarten.

On the beach we found a variety of boats including house boats, yachts, and barges, and this art installation which I think relates to WW1. I though the silhouette figures on the shore quite evocative.

This afternoon we’ve watched some of Wimbledon and walked in the local town. We’ve been trying to trace the route of the long gone railway line, and find the location of the station - also now gone. We think we’ve been successful. Interesting how some parts of our human landscape remain unaltered, whilst other parts disappear.

We are forecast rain and cooler temperatures tomorrow and we are very much hoping they arrive.

Hope your day has been kind to you.
