Divisive
I’ve Blipped previously about Bibby Stockholm, initially ambivalent my thoughts are now coming down as “against”.
No particular reason other than history, is Bibby Stockholm a prison ship or an accommodation centre?
Two centuries ago prison ships were more often described as prison hulks, as in a current or former seagoing vessel that had been modified to become places of substantive detention for convicts, prisoners of war or civilian internees. In use during18th- and 19th-century Britain their use was discontinued.
There are those that will counter with; “they were good enough for military personnel in Port Stanley post conflict in 1982 or as HMP Weare in 1997 as a temporary measure to ease prison overcrowding”.
Interestingly it was Bibby Resolution that was used in those cases.
I guess the main difference is that the occupants in either ‘82 or ‘97 were not bewildered immigrants in an environment utterly alien to them.
I guess we will all have our own opinions.
The evening was spent at an Epic Gig Club Meeting, billed as an ‘All Club Meeting’ I guess around a third of the membership showed up.
A good agenda with the points clearly explained and discussed, we may at last start to move forward.
