John Rae

Had some work to attend to at St Magnus Cathedral today, and while I was there I realised that despite having lived here a year I had never visited the grave of John Rae. I put that to rights.

For those who don't know, John Rae is one of Orkney's unsung heroes - unsung because the British establishment of the time did not take kindly to his discovery of cannibalism among the crew of the ill-fated Franklin expedition. He is properly 'sung' in Orkney though - and rightly so.
