Ash Tree and Ammunition Silo
More Infra Red for you today. From Suomenlinna and the old Russian Gun Emplacements from the days when they were the dominant power here in Finland. This silo once was a store for the shells which fed the great seaward facing guns of the defensive battery. The fortress took an awful battering from the Anglo-French fleet during the Crimean war. Yes, this is a very long way from the Crimea but it was the Russians once again who were involved. History has a habit of refusing to go away. Suomenlinna is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Better off that way!
