The Tiger Who Came to Tea

Mrs B had bought tickets to see a stage performance of Judith Kerr's wonderful picture book The Tiger Who Came to Tea. She intended to take her children and go with their cousin and his mum. Unfortunately for them, the little cousin has chicken pox and scarlet fever together, and his mum's caught scarlet fever, too. Needless to say, they couldn't go. So ... the two grannies bought the tickets and went along. Their disappointing loss was our gain. It's one of my favourite children's books, and the small cast stuck to the plot and illustrations faithfully, right down to character Sophie's red, white and blue-checked tights!

Audience members were not allowed to take photos of the performance, of course, but I did snap the opening stage set before the play began. And I've superimposed this photo of a toy Tiger that was bought for the missing little boy as compensation. The play is on tour for some time, so we're really hoping they might catch another performance while it's still within reach, once they're better. It was beautifully done, with added songs that the audience could join in, and that were in keeping with the original book. I'm sure the author would have been delighted.

Sunshine and heavy rain have alternated throughout the day. Now, as sunset approaches, it's gone suddenly dark. Thunder's rolling and, judging by its timing after the latest flash of lightning, I reckon it's nearly two miles away. It's already cleared the air. Should make for a more comfortable sleeping temperature!
