Ternín

The medieval church known as the Hermitage of St Martin of Ternín  is not favoured with the usual roadsigns to indicate its presence or status but it was, until 1892, the local parochial church. In 1892 that status was transferred to San Andrés de Valdebárcena, which I showed a couple of days ago.
Ternín is barely a village, just a couple of farmhouses and their outbuildings; and the track out towards the church is tiny, un-signposted and ill-kept. The church is also small and ill-maintained.
My main photo shows the possibly romanesque, but more probably pre-romanesque, window on the east wall. The cross above the window is said to echo the cross, which is pre.romanesque, in the Camera Santa (Holy Room) in the cathedral at Oviedo. The upper symbols are said to represent the sun and moon.
The other photos, the extras, show a circular trip round the church, from the west entrance anticlockwise, including the very overgrown campo santo (graveyard), and ending with a view of the church from the south west and from a distance.
