Mums and Grannies night out

Not often it’s cocktails on a school night! The blip is from our night out last night. Ailie and me, #3 daughter and Ailie’s daughter. Ella and Andrew are the same age and at the same school. Ella and Nathaniel call Ailie Granny 2 and make up lavatorial songs when they see her.

Today I hosted Book Group 2 “Dictionary of Lost Words”. We had a lot to say about it which is the best type of book though nobody thought it was reward material.

Mr C had his medical MOT. All well apart from the suggestion he get tested for short term memory loss.

# 2 daughter phoned to say they’d had a meeting at school about James. The good news is his reading is marginally within the standard for his year and he’s made a year of progress in 6 months. With comprehension he’s in the top area of expected standard and has made 2 years progress in 6 months. His imagination and ideas are vg. In Maths he’s expected standard. However in writing he’s made no progress at all. It’s totally illegible. Because his reading is about right he’ll not get special needs teaching at middle school, a year away, so they will have to take care which middle school they apply for. The school suggest putting him in the queue for testing for ADHD. She’s not too worried as if he has it he might get support at Middle School. So fingers crossed for him but I’m really impressed with how much effort he and his parents have put in. As he responds well to rewards I suggested they reward the amount of time spent practicing writing rather than spellings which he won’t do because he can never get them all right.
