Gullfoss

Another day, another tour. Today's excursion from Reykjavik was on the Golden Circle tour - a bit like the Icelandic equivalent of the Falkirk Wheel, the Kelpies, Stirling Castle and Linlithgow Palace, but with waterfalls.

First stop was the Faxi waterfall - I'll see if I can add that as an extra later - and the mighty, multi-level Gullfoss (main photo) which is a real sight to behold and listen to. Our lunch stop was near the Strokkur geyser, which whooshes into the air at frequent intervals and has taken over from the original but now mostly-dormant Geyser. On our way back to Reykjavik we stopped at Thingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland's parliament from settlement times and for several hundred years thereafter. Another grand day out, but the real fun starts on Monday* (of which more later).

*This is being written on Wednesday, so I'm running late as usual. The real fun, please be assured, has indeed begun.
