Afternoon Snack

Rauchbier.

This afternoon in Bamberg, I had a märzen rauchbier (smoked märzen beer) at Schlenkerla. This brewery dates from 1405 (not the oldest brewery we have imbibed at on this trip, but plenty old). It was a glorious beer. I love rauchbiers and this was the smokiest I've had by far. It is also substantive enough to be a meal unto itself. The room I enjoyed it in was annexed by the brewery in 1926, but it was originally the chapel of the monastery next door.
