All that is happening here

Is the long goodbye.

Michael my brother in law brought home the ashes of his wife Irene from Cincinnati where she passed away. It was a long struggle for her beginning with memory loss and then on to dementia. He cared for her as long as he could in the home but in the end it wasn't humanly possible for him to do it. When she went into the nursing home they were able to look after her and they did. Her wish was to be buried with her parents in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. Michael made that final journey with her and placed her ashes in with her parents. The song the Long Goodbye is a love song but it also reminds me of the loss of a relationship when a person enters into this illness.
