Summer Meadows Walk

Kat wasn't working today but she wanted to go on the Water of Leith Conservation Trust's Guided walk to learn more about the wildflower meadows. The knowledge will be useful for her children's activity days and parties.

Her boss Helen was leading the walk with specialist, Sarah Clarkson, herbalist and dyer. Helen told us the common names of all the wildflowers, trees and shrubs that we saw, and also told us some folklore tales about them.

Sarah has a business, Woolen Origins, and showed us wools she had dyed from flowers. She also is a herbalist and told us about the medicinal use of some of the flowers.

I've sent the photos of them to Kat and I'll edit the flower shots later. I really enjoyed this.

Why do Scottish chippies make life so difficult? The language barrier is hard enough but, I looked at the menu board and order 1 small fish with regular chips and 1 large sausage with regular chips. It seemed quite expensive but, you don't get much of a chip for your six-penneth these days. When the order was ready I could see she was piling too many packets up. She had served me sausage & chips, fish & chips, then 2 extra packets of chips! I got a refund.
