Canal Incident
On the Coventry Canal at Hopwas and we were enjoying an afternoon walk after lunch at a local pub. There were lots of canal boats moored up and people hanging around on the tow path. It was as we passed this point we noticed that a tree had fallen across the canal, completely blocking passage in both directions. The crowd had formed to watch two tree surgeons start the tricky task of clearing away the tree.
We left them to it, walking around Hopwas Wood, which was open today. It is military land with a rifle range at one end and frustratingly it can often be closed, even at the weekend, if shooting is taking place.
By the time we returned many of the trees branches had been removed but it still looked as though it would be many hours before the boats could start to move again.
