Strange little shapes

Hovenia dulcis or Japanese raisin tree. It's lovely tree, planted in the anticipation of harvesting the swollen rachis, or stem that can be eaten raw and tastes like , raisin. This is the first time it has really fruited, if that's the word. A most unusual fruit, as it is the stem you eat.
