Sir Jimmy Shand

This morning I was in the nearby town of Auchtermuchty, known better to us locals as ‘Muchty. The name seems to be difficult to pronounce for non Scots having 2 of the “ch” sounds in it which gives us much amusement . !

It is famous for being the home of the late great Jimmy Shand probably one of the best known Scottish accordionists and band leaders whose recording of the Bluebell Polka reached the top 20. He wrote more than 300 tunes, recorded more tracks than Elvis and the Beetles combined and designed the famous Shand Merino Hohner button accordion.
A statue of the famous man sits in a lovely spot in Auchtermuchty so I stopped off to take this photo.

The town was also home to the the more recently well known musicians The Proclaimers when they were growing up and they attended the same high school as I did although many years before.
