Nunnington Hall
Nunnington Hall
Fine house & gardens, set so pleasantly up and feeling very relaxed. We played classic garden games set up so thoughtfully, including skittles, jenga and croquet. There’s not a more fitting sound on an English lawn than that of croquet mallett on ball, the explosion of noise echoing off the country house. Of course I have no idea how to play it properly but I do enjoy making up my own rules…
These old houses speak of the past, their walls almost audible.
Wealth and privilege. Bedfellows at perfect ease with one another. And here, all these years on, the family long since left due to financial necessity, the staff man the house as unpaid volunteers and literally anyone can wander the corridors. It’s a paradox that would have worked the minds of the privileged who owned it in centuries past, that the staff would cost nothing but the doors of the hall would be open for all.
Even us,
But not the dogs.
