Breda - View from the Wilhelmina Brug (I think)

Very confusing intersection, this one. You have this bridge. If you look towards the old city centre, you get the Marksingel on the left side of the bridge and the Chassesingel on the right side of the same bridge. On the other hand, if you look away from the old city centre, and thus on the other side of the canal, you get the Wilhelminasingel on the left side of the same bridge and the Boeimeersingel on the right side ... of the same bridge. After almost 25 years, I finally sorted that out.

Actually, though, this isn't just a canal. It is a tributary of the Mark River, which encircles the whole (old) city centre. During the Eighty Years War way back in 1568, when Spanish troops occupied Breda, which used to be the seat of the House of Orange, Dutch guerillas sneaked into the castle hidden under layers of peat in a boat and surprised the Spaniards garrisoned in the castle.

Lovely sunny day, yea. We could do with a bit more warmth. Always. The day promised to be so good that I sacrificed my free day and went to work. For a change, even Rotterdam didn't look as grey as it usually does.
