Peregrinations

What can I say, except just reiterate what we all know - blippers are just the best! Thank you so much for all those wonderfully encouraging comments post launch. Today I quietly sat and read each one (it's now Sunday) and I appreciate every comment.

Saturday was another big day and I'm blipping late. Gary Branigan, author of Ancient and Holy Wells of Dublin, and admin for the excellent  Ancient and Holy Wells of Ireland facebook page, kindly travelled all the way down from Dublin to do the honours.  It was not without incident for almost the day before he was due to travel his car conked out in the Sally Gap and travel down to West Cork is not straight forward! Anyway he made it and camped near the river in Ballydehob, not realising it was tidal! He put a pair of shoes out to dry on a rock - they floated off but interestingly, one floated back on the next tide but the other did not. Anyway, all was calm by the evening and he gave a magnificent speech - I was impressed for he actually read the book!

Today we had to indulge in a holy wells exploration. The talk was nonstop and rather one subject  and the weather was challenging.  First stop Lady's Well in Kealkill, noted for its profusion of BVMs. We also stopped at the Blessed Well in Gooladoo - de riguer bum shot - and St Bartholomew's well near Bantry. All fascinating.

Time for a quick wash and brush up and then on to Schull to meet up with Robert and Finola and a supper at Nico's. It was rammed and we sat outside and I had a large glass of wine and a rather good beetroot and halloumi salad. The topics  of conversation were very varied and we tried not to dwell on wells too much!
