Small Tortoiseshell

This was my first sighting of the year. Normally there are lots on my buddleias. Maybe this one, and the other one who flew in later, are an indication that they are on their way.

Does anyone else have an infuriating smoke alarm? 

When the battery needs changing, it lets out a piercing beep very frequently. It won’t shut up. I’ve had friends, and electricians fail to sort it in the past (until my niece’s partner solved it about eight years ago.)

It kept on with its beep so much that I googled it and watched a couple of YouTube videos.
I followed it step by step (and with increasingly precarious stepladders).
I learned that you had to disconnect it from the mains electricity at the fuse box. 
I found out how to prod in the bit that stops you taking off the lid. I 
I found the battery and took it out. 

It didn’t shut the thing up ! 
It kept beeping as it sat dismantled on the kitchen table. 
It kept beeping while I went to Waitrose for a new battery.

New battery.
Sorted ?

Well, the beep is. It shut up.

But then I had the fun of putting it back together. All ok.
But I’m neither tall enough nor dexterous enough to put the lid back on.

So it’s hanging from the ceiling.
But it has stopped beeping…….
