Settling In
Drove up to the Bothy today. It was a very smooth journey, although at times there was torrential rain, and some spectacular waterfalls coming off the hills. We passed the time listening to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
It was raining lightly when we arrived at the road end, but we had our waterproofs ready for the 1km walk over.
We arrived at the house and things were mostly OK - it's always a relief to find the roof hasn't blown off! One window pane at the front had broken - the old metal frame rusted so much it broke the glass. Some kind passer by had put some wood they found lying around over the broken pane and propped it up with stones. However, it looks like a bird got in before they did so. We never found the bird so presumably it eventually found its way out through the chimney, but it had made a bit of a mess. Some of the dust covers over the furniture had droppings on, others had been pulled off and ripped, there were a few feathers around, and some boxes of games had been knocked off a shelf over the floor. It looked a bit of a mess, but was quickly cleared up.
Later on the weather dried out so we walked back to the car to get some more things, then had dinner and a quick game of dinosaur top trumps before bed.
CyclopsJnr was very happy to read to himself while I made dinner - this is noticeable progress from last year when he wasn't that into reading to himself. It's great he can occupy himself happily like that!
