Damoiselle

A male of the species and never seen before in our garden. I saw it come in and settle and thought it must surely be a dark butterfly. Grabbed the nearest camera to hand, slipped on an image stabilised telephoto lens and ventured out in pursuit. I got one shot when he flew off but fortunately he landed on an different bush and remained there, posing. This was a treat because I have only ever seen one of these before and where this one came from I really do not know since there is no source of water very close by. He might have flown a kilometre or so from the lake.
