Moving the herd
Today we helped our neighbour move some of his cows from their winter grazing to the farm. A journey of about 2 Km. Some of the cows had calved so it was time to get them back in with the rest of the herd. We picked up 12 new born calves and put them in a trailer behind the vehicle we were driving then drove very slowly so the cows would follow. There were two people on motor bikes, 2 on push bikes and a vehicle in front and another at the end warning traffic stock was being moved. Walking stock on the road is not a usual sight in NZ these days and the farmer was surprised the council allowed him to do it but it isn't a very busy road although we were passed by a tourist bus and a wide load with a pilot vehicle which was a bit unusual. The tourists must have been amazed to see cows walking down the road, They all had their cameras out.
It all went without a hitch.
