Light as ….

A feather. Found below the house martin nest, so I guess it’s from one of the martins who are flying in and out fairly frequently now.

Colour plumage in birds isn’t necessarily from pigments, but from the way light reflects off the scales of the feathers. That will certainly be the case with the feathers on the back of the house martin, which give it its dark blue sheen.
