Back to the layout tonight.  I wasn't happy with the way the ballast looked after the last attempt, you can see here. 

The colour didn't look right and the scale of the stone was more like boulders than rocks.  I also realised that I had not brought the ballast up to near the top of the rails, which is quite common in depots.  So an attempt tonight to rectify my mistakes with the overlay of some finer ballast.

Will need to see how it looks after the glue has dried.
