National Sleepy Head Day

Today was my birthday and such a lovely day! I slept very late. We visited Art Gallery Saskia (Praktikum V exhibition) and ate fish and chips in the outdoor restaurant Rillinki.

In the evening Sari, Heka, Elina, Janne, Minna and Lotta came over and hubby served us piña coladas and hot dogs. Lotta picked up Emma from work. In the photo girls are making exquisite background for my photo!

27 July is National Sleepy Head Day, it is a yearly celebration in Finland.. This holiday is related to the legend of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus, but rather than a religious festival, it is more of an informal celebration. The tradition of the Sleepy Head Day traces back to the Middle Ages, when the belief was that the person in the household who slept late on this day would be lazy and non-productive for the rest of the year. In the old days, the last person sleeping in the house (also dubbed as the "laziest") could be woken up by using water, either by being thrown into a lake or the sea, or by having water thrown on them.
 
It looks like I will be very non-productive for the rest of the year, because I slept so late today.
