Abstract
One of our neighbors, a new friend, is going through treatment for lung cancer. She goes to Duke Hospital in Raleigh which is about 2 hours away every 3rd week for 3 days of chemo and immunotherapy. She and her partner stay in a hotel during the the 3 days of treatment. Her cancer is terminal, she can only hope to buy some time. She loves life and her new life here in North Carolina. Her partner talked her into trying the recommended treatment, because well, you never know what will happen and when the next break through might happen. We text while she's away, she lets me know how each day is going and when they're headed back home. I asked if there was anything I could get for her return and she just wanted watermelon.
It was nice to see her and she looked pretty darn good, just glad to be home for the next 2 weeks before the last scheduled treatment, before she gets the usual MRI and PET scans to see if the treatment they're giving her is "working". When life gets rough, it's good to know there are people who care.
