Hamper Mill

This morning we drove to my Mother's house (near Watford) where we will be staying for a couple of days. This  afternoon we visited my Aunt in nearby Harrow Weald. She was looking quite well given all she has been through recently.  We had a useful conversation about things that need to be done to make her life more comfortable, which Martin and I, and my sister, can help to organise.
This evening, Martin and I went for a walk across Sandy Lodge golf course, and to Hamper Mill lake and house on the river Colne, along footpaths now part of the London  Loop. My blip shows The Clock House which was the wheel house  when there was a working mill here. This building is from the 18th century but  the site has had a succession  of mills from the 13th century, at least, originally corn mills and later a paper mill. It is  now a private house which has appeared in TV programmes  such as Midsomer Murders and Mike Leigh's film "Mr Turner". The extra shows the adjacent lake formerly a gravel pit. My sisters and I would often enjoy doing this walk when we were children/teenagers but I haven't walked here for some years, and it brought back to me many happy memories.
