Grass Snake Lunch

Ditch survey is not known for its drama, but among the peaceful Frogbit and Ivy-leaved Duckweed I spent a good twenty minutes watching a Grass Snake grappling with a large Common Toad, puffed up in defence. The snake eventually manipulated it through the vegetation and out of sight...I still wonder whether she managed to swallow it!
