Rotterdam Summer Carnival

It's since 1984 that in the last weekend of July or the first of August, Rotterdam celebrates a Latin American carnival, what also is much influenced by music and culture from the Carribean islands and from the  Capeverdian islands... as Rotterdam people come from the world all over and the city is like a melting... and this Carnival is also referred to as "Rio in Rotterdam" 

As here in NW Europe Carnival is celebrated in Winter, and that then does not give the immigrants from warm tropical countries here the opportunities to celebrate carnival like they are used to from their native soils. So a Summer Carnival in the Netherlands was born in the early 80-ies and since 1984 it is held in Rotterdam.

It's been some years since I was there and did enjoy it of course!
