Murder on the Back Lawn

We were just sitting down to dinner when my eye caught movement in the garden. Looking up I saw a sparrow hawk on the shed roof, and it had something in its claws!

Looking back onto the lawn I saw the tell tale signs of a circle of light coloured feathers on the lawn.

Earlier in the day we saw the chick on the bird table and also flying onto branches in the hedge. The parents were nearby, feeding the chick and monitoring progress.

Nature can be so cruel.
