Finding My Bearings

Going up in the world?

Today we travelled high up into the Western Ghats (mountains). Our ‘hotel’ is actually one of several cottages in what looks like a jungle - just beautiful.

We made several stops on the way, including waterfalls, a textile factory where they use traditional looms, we had a Keralan lunch of seventeen different dishes served on a banana leaf, then had a tour of a chocolate factory.

The area is apparently one of the world’s eight biodiversity hotspots and we can see why - even just along the road we saw jackfruit, cashew, rubber and cacao (hence the chocolate!) trees, plus a huge array of wildlife.

We made friends with this Indian giant squirrel at our hotel - it was adorable and seemed to like us, too!
