Yorkshire Day
On 1st August every year Yorkshire folk all around the world celebrate their good fortune of being born in the 'Broad Acres' i.e. the largest (and finest) county in the UK.
The Day was first celebrated in 1975 when the Yorkshire Ridings Society organised it as a protest against the Local Government Re-organisation of 1974 and calling for the wider recognition of the historic North. East and West Ridings. The white rose is the traditional symbol of Yorkshire.
(Lancashire also has its special day - November 27th - when red roses abound).
