Pretty Tough

It was stunning and gruelling in equal measure. Even the place names back it up - Painscastle - like a Pain Cave but much bigger! On saying that, the spectacular scenery really did balance it out and it was another ascent where the road curves beautifully around the head of the valley, cutting across so you have chance to admire the view before reaching the top and on to the other side.

I was cycling at not long after seven in the hope of missing most of the showers. Great success! I paused under a tree for the worst of only one before trundling back into Builth Wells and tackling the 16% back to the campsite. The beauty of an early start is the amount of chilling and eating and pottering that’s left to do for the rest of the day.
