...in the 'man made' environment. A heron on the Impounding Sluice which separates the Great Ouse Relief Channel from the Cut Off Channel, both constructed in 1964 to counter historical flooding from the Rivers Wissey, Little Ouse and Great Ouse; and in the case of the Cut Off Channel to take excess water from The Norfolk fens and divert it to Essex reservoirs.
