Industrial Landscape

This is the Egger chipboard factory which has been in operation since 1998. Built on the brownfield site that used to be the Barony Colliery coal processing plant. Some of the local pre-school kids refer to it as the cloud factory due to the constant flow of steam from the chimney.

On the hillside in the distance is the ATH Opencast workings. The company had gone into administration so the future of the site is still in question. Hargreaves Surface Mining Limited have agreed to a deal to take over the assets as ATH is wound up.
