Inspired by the Working Class Movement library.
It had begun in the 1950’s as a private collection of books and ephemera relating to the working class movement but when their house was at bursting point, Salford Council agreed to house the collection in a former nurses’ home. The oldest item dates from the 1760’s and this charming book on ‘Trades’ was lying, temptingly, on top of a pile of books that had been requested by a researcher from an on line catalogue. The library is open to all. What a wonderful resource.
