A trip …

We walked down to the Farmers’ Market this morning.  There aren’t many stalls at the moment, but I guess that’s understandable in the middle of winter.  We bought a lovely big bag of Brussels Sprouts for $5 and a bag of Yams for $2.  The Whitestone Cheese was a tad more expensive.  After the market we wandered around the shops and galleries on Harbour Street.  There really are some lovely artisan products available.  That took quite a bit of time, as there was so much to admire.  We then went for a coffee at the café in Mitre10 before checking out sanders and paint stripper - oh the excitement!  Our next port of call was Noel Leeming to buy a video door bell.  Where we spend most of our time is some distance from the front door and we thought it would  be sensible to be able to tell if someone was there.  Fortunately the Waitaki Trading Post was closed by the time we walked past otherwise we might have been tempted.

The blip is of the Ōamaru Centennial Memorial Restrooms (1840 - 1940).  The government provided a subsidy for centennial memorials, and it encouraged those that had a useful purpose. There were over 250 memorials in total, and Plunket rooms and rest rooms such as these at Ōamaru were common.
