Rain stopped play

First day of volunteering at the UCI World championships today!  Was pretty exciting walking over to Glasgow Green from the train station, seeing all the signs and the fences.  I even saw team Kazakhstan out on a training ride on the way to venue.

Of course I arrived stupidly early, which allowed me to have a wander round the site.  The Trials courses look super cool, and the guys doing the BMX thing were hugely impressive as you might expect.

I did get the short straw when it came to the volunteer roles, I ended up being 'accessibility' which meant standing around with the wheelchair that could be loaned out in case anyone needed it / me.  No one did need it / me, but it was still important that I was there just in case. (To be clear, it wasn't the role that was the problem, just the fact that I didn't have much to do!).  Sadly, I didn't even know the answer  After about an hour being stationed near the quiet gate, my supersvisor said I could get closer to the action, where I could at least see at bit of what was going on.  Some seriously cool stuff.  I did get asked by a wee lassie if I knew where she could get a cowbell from, and I couldn't even give her a good answer to that!

He definitley got better pictures on his phone than I did on mine.  There was some umming and ahhing about whether or not the competition would continue, and the field of play volunteers were bravely trying to dry the competition area and that was my blip.  The spectators had pretty much all gone home and I was excited by the idea of seeing some of the athletes do their thing to an exclusive crowd of a few dozen volunteers, but alas, the clouds opened up again and it wasn't to be.

All in all, had a really fantastic day, don't think I've smiled this much in ages, and I really enjoyed meeting lots of volunteers and
