Sea Pink

We were up and out early this morning to catch low tide at Hayling Beach. It was worth every minute. The sun shone brightly and the beach was relatively empty other than for dog walkers scattered far and wide across the sand. It was a particularly low tide and with the sea so far out, it looked as though we could walk all the way to the Isle of Wight. Merlin ran joyously and ate mouthfuls of seaweed (as usual).

This afternoon I’ve been at the allotment cutting the grass. I also weeded, and pruned back the rhubarb which had subsumed some of the paths. It’s a busy time of year at the plot harvesting, weeding, grass cutting and keeping things vaguely under control. The rain these past few weeks has really encouraged a lot more growth. Anyway it felt rewarding to be outside and active.

This blip shows a carpet of pink thrift flowers we found at the back of the beach. I’ve not seen it growing in a field like this before. It made for a pretty sight, especially in the sunshine.
