The Wild Man of Lappeenranta
Lappeenranta was founded in 1649 by Swedish queen Christina. The seal of the new town was showing a wild man and so the town got it's Swedish name Vilmanstrand, "Wild Man's Strand". Since then, the symbol of Lappeenranta has been a wild man (a Laplander) with a club. This figure bent of flat iron decorates the wall of a block of flats.
