Wild Flower Magic

Silenus, the drunken, merry god of the woodlands in Greek mythology, gave his name to Silene dioica, the Red Campion with its delightful carmine pink flowers and this adorns the bank, alongside a stream in my garden.
I love how the meadows, woodlands and hedgerows are coming alive at the moment with wild flowers and I am delighted to read today of the creation of the Coronation Meadow scheme.
This marks the Queen's 60th anniversary of her coronation and plans are afoot to create such a wildflower meadow in every county.
I was dismayed to learn that Britain has lost 97% of its wild flower meadows since the Thirties.
Apparently, the oldest surviving is Loughborough Big Meadow in Leicestershire which dates back to 1762.
Yay! Just heard the flagship meadow for west Dorset is Lady's Mead Meadow at Toller Pecorum.
