It is a vital component but has an uncertain future. Sometimes destroyed by incorrect fitting, riding though glass, nails, potholes, paired with worn or damaged tyres, ridden under inflated.

Like a tadpole, some avoid all of these hazards and live for years now part of a cherished machine.
