Small hummingbird ...

... big attitude!

This is the juvenile male ruby-throated hummingbird that rules the backyard!  And he rules with an iron claw!  

Each summer we load our yard with lots and lots of flowers to attract not only the hummingbirds but all kinds of pollinators.  We love the wide variety of wildlife ... birds, bees, insects ... that the flowers bring to our yard.  

But this little one thinks ALL the flowers belong to him ... and him alone!  And who are we to argue?!?  Seen here is the beginning of the ruby-throat that gives this hummingbird its name.  I can only hope that he will return to our yard next summer when he will be a full fledged adult with a ruby red neck.
