Water Bubbler
I did some research into the reserve at 59 Erskineville Rd, yesterday’s blip. It was a butcher’s shop from the 1890s to the mid-1940s, but there’s nothing in the national library’s digitised newspapers for earlier or later. Pre-subdivision in the 1890s thought there were market gardens and, earlier still, kangaroo hunting grounds.
And the water bubbler (pictured) used to be in the reserve, but was moved to the footpath outside the Erskineville Hotel opposite due to roadworks.
I’ll take my ideas for the makeover - including a reference to the reserve’s history, relocation of the water bubbler and KeenKen’s centrepiece suggestion - to the Friends of Erskineville meeting tonight. Did I mention I don’t like meetings?
Thanks for hosting MaryElizaR.
