Expanse of pavement

I rounded the corner today to head up to Royal Terrace and was stunned by the huge expanse of pavement before me.  For at least the past three years the area has been caged off, dug up, worked on, abandoned, while all the Leith Walk tramworks and  roadway refurbishment has been going on. A scurry of activity yesterday and suddenly we have a huge piazza. What’s going to happen there now? Will the cafe on the corner overspill to catch some more of the gale-force winds and traffic fumes? Or will we get a piece of street sculpture? Could the bookshop expand with a marquee for a mini book festival? Or just a space? Who knows.

Can hardly remember now what it was like before.
