Eleanor Rigby . . . The Beatles
I took myself for a drive in the country on this beautiful day. The vineyards are very neat with the vines pruned, there are some apples left on the bare trees and a gang of workers were cutting cauliflowers. There are a lot of little churches in these rural areas. This one is St Peter and Pauls Catholic Church at Appleby. It opened in 1885 and in 1889 they pulled it down and rebuilt it on the same site. I wonder what went wrong the first time? Currently Mass is celebrated on the 4th Saturday of each month at 5pm. Miss Emily O'Connor endowed the Parish generously for the maintenance of the Church and graveyard. Four generations of the O'Connor family have been farming on the Waimea Plans.
